Applying the product by contact

Roller coaters transfer pigments, waxes and water- or solvent-based formulations directly onto leather without spray-gun atomisation. The applicator cylinder works with the doctor blade and conveyor belt. Danese supplies the main consumables and parts that help these elements operate consistently.

Engraved cylinders: selecting the required deposit

We supply cylinders with different engravings, selected for the formulation, leather and required effect. Engraving geometry contributes to the quantity transferred. The table below lists our range references in readable text.

Formulation viscosity and leather characteristics also affect deposition. Verify the result under actual processing conditions.

Steel and fibreglass doctor blades

The doctor blade meters product on the cylinder and removes excess, helping control the transferred film. We supply steel blades from 0.3 to 0.6 mm thick, selected for the machine and heated or unheated roller configuration. For particularly sticky products, fibreglass blades can also be assessed to help release the formulation.

Rubber belts and cleaning brushes

The belt supports and carries leather through the application zone. We supply high-quality rubber belts selected to resist the waxes and solvents actually used. Material, dimensions and joint must match the machine. Service life depends on products, workload and maintenance; the belt is an important part of line reliability.

Brushes keep the belt clean, helping remove residues that might transfer back onto leather. Replacements are selected by dimensions, mounting and bristle material. For modular solutions, see Re-Brush®; adaptation is assessed for the machine.

DN15 pumps, filters and circuit parts

We supply DN15 diaphragm pumps, parts, suction strainers and filter screens. DN15 can be assessed as an alternative to DN12 by comparing connections, flow, materials and product compatibility. Direct replacement is not assumed for every installation. The dedicated page compares the pumps and their features.

Rotary unions and speed variators

Rotary unions are subject to wear and are identified by model, dimensions, connections and service fluid. We also supply cylinder speed variators. Roller speed relative to leather travel affects deposition together with engraving and formulation. The settings need to be assessed as a whole.

Roller coating or spraying: select for the application

Roller coating transfers product by contact and can handle substantial deposits, while spraying enables very light applications. For catalysed or fast-reacting formulations, assess working time and system suitability with the chemical supplier rather than applying one rule to every product.
