300AST · Softness 7
What does the 300AST measure?
It measures softness through material deflection. For non-rigid leather, ISO 17235 (IULTCS IUP 36) is the reference non-destructive method. Softness and thickness are different measurements.
# AST01Which ring should I use?
Use the 20 mm ring for very soft, fine leather; 25 mm is the usual intermediate choice. For thick, less soft leather, use the 35 mm opening without a reducing ring. Keep the same diameter when comparing samples.
# AST02How do I reset the 300AST?
Place the instrument horizontally on its base. Open the lever, insert leather with the reference plate on top, and release the lever completely. Press ZERO at the end of travel and check that the display remains steady at 1.50.
# AST03How do I measure softness correctly?
Open the lever and insert the leather. Lower slowly until the sample is clamped, then complete the gravity release to apply the weight and read the actual value. Repeat at several points using the same ring and procedure.
# AST04When should I repeat the 300AST preparation?
Whenever the batch or leather type changes, select the ring again and repeat preparation and reset. Record the diameter together with the measured values so results can be compared.
# AST05What should I send if the 300AST reading is unstable?
Send the model, serial number and a video showing the instrument position, ring, reset with the reference plate and complete measurement. Include the reading and its variation to help distinguish a procedural issue from an instrument fault.
# AST06Can I compare processing trials with the 300AST?
Yes. Compare samples and batches after different treatments, keeping the procedure and diameter constant and documenting test conditions. Acceptance requirements must be defined for the leather article and application.
# AST07Calati · Thickness gauges 6
Which Calati gauge should I choose for production or a laboratory?
The choice depends on material, access to the measuring point, working environment and required method. Tell us whether you need a quick production check or a laboratory measurement so we can assess model, opening and configuration.
# CAL01Does the 300GCD use a spring or a weight?
The spring configuration uses a calibrated spring to generate the specified load. A vertically falling weight version, more suitable for a bench, can also be assessed. Configuration and conformity must relate to the exact assembly and agreed procedure.
# CAL02May I lubricate a Calati thickness gauge?
No. Do not lubricate a Calati thickness gauge. If movement or return is irregular, contact support with the model and symptoms before taking action.
# CAL03What should I report if the gauge does not return to zero?
Provide the model, serial number, reading with the contacts closed, and details of impacts or damage. Include contact photos and a short video of the movement for an initial assessment.
# CAL04Can the lever be adapted?
We can assess this. Send a sketch or video of the grip and workstation, together with the number of instruments. The 300 series lever has an established geometry; feasibility, quantities and cost must be considered together.
# CAL05Is there a thickness gauge for wet departments?
The range includes the protected 300PCT analogue gauge for damp tannery environments and work near splitting machines. Describe actual operating conditions so we can check the configuration’s suitability.
# CAL06Wireless, HID and Selevision 6
How do Calati HID readings reach the computer?
The USB HID receiver enters the value in the active field like a keyboard. The receiving software can therefore capture the number without a specific Calati integration.
# DIG01Can I send measurements to Excel?
Yes. In HID mode, the value is entered in the active cell or field. Before use, check the number format, decimal separator and cursor position on the destination computer.
# DIG02Can I choose the decimal separator?
The HID configuration described supports a dot, comma or no separator. Choose the format expected by the spreadsheet or receiving software.
# DIG03Can I move to the next cell after a measurement?
The HID configuration provides ENTER, TAB or no final command. Choose according to the data-entry path required by the software.
# DIG04Can I customise units and rounding?
Configurations have included mm, oz, custom units and rounding to 0.05. For a new supply, confirm availability for the model and firmware version specified in the quotation.
# DIG05How do HID and Selevision differ?
HID types the value in the active field; Selevision includes dedicated software and a licence. Choose according to your data workflow and confirm features, terms and renewals in the current quotation. The wireless/WiFi trade name does not imply connection to your company Wi-Fi network.
# DIG06CARM · Abrasives 8
How do I choose CARM abrasive paper?
Provide the leather type, processing stage, desired result, machine, dimensions and grit. Selection considers the leather article, backing and abrasive treatment.
# CRM01When should I consider CARM LB or FB?
LB is the versatile option. Consider FB where moisture and backing strength require particular attention. Verify the choice under actual processing conditions.
# CRM02Which abrasive should I consider for nubuck?
CARM RC is stearate-treated paper offered for nubuck and applications where the final handle matters. Trials should assess the leather result and performance over time.
# CRM03Which abrasive should I consider for heavily fatliquored leather?
CARM KP20 is the option to assess. Its semi-open abrasive coating helps remove residues and reduce clogging.
# CRM04Does the same grit guarantee the same result?
No. Backing, treatment, machine and leather also matter. Compare abrasives intended for the same application; grit alone is insufficient.
# CRM05How should I organise a CARM comparison trial?
Keep the machine, leather article and settings as consistent as possible. Record surface quality, quantity processed, useful life, belt changes and waste. Compare processing cost as well as abrasive price.
# CRM06Do you supply belts for Aletti and Bergi machines?
Yes. Send the make, model, belt dimensions, grit and quantity. Compatibility and availability must be confirmed for the requested size.
# CRM07What information is needed if a belt breaks or wears too quickly?
Send abrasive type and batch, grit, dimensions, machine, leather type and photos of the break or clogging. Explain when the issue occurs and identify the comparison product.
# CRM08eZipCut · Cutting 4
Which materials can I submit for an eZipCut cutting trial?
eZipCut pneumatic cutters are intended for cutting and trimming leather and may suit textiles and technical materials. Send a sample or description, thickness and required result so the configuration can be assessed.
# EZ01How do I choose between eZipCut EZ80 and EZ90?
Send material type and thickness, processing stage, required cut and a workstation video. Selection depends on the application; the quotation should include a comparative technical table for both models.
